About FIFA

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is the international governing body of association football. It is one of the world's oldest and largest Football event organizaing association, being founded on May 21, 1904. It has since expanded to include 208 member associations.

In the early days, FIFA had only the nations of continental Europe like France, Sweden and Switzerland. So organising an event like World Cup was not possible. Later on, England joined the Federation in 1905 and FIFA gained fame in British countries as well. In 1909 South Africa (the first non-European member) joined, and Argentina and Chile followed in 1912. The USA and Canada entered just before World War I in 1913. Since then, FIFA has gained an extraordinary explosion of interest in world football and its growing ability to attract fans of all ages, gender and social groups.
